JOB TITLE

Project Engineer

SUMMARY

Directs project organization and assures the flow of communication documents by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Please see the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Requests for Information (RFIs)
    1. Create and send RFIs to project Architect
    2. Track and log status of RFIs
    3. Communicate with consultants for timely responses to questions
    4. Distribute answered RFIs to all effected trades and to project team
    5. Post record set of documents with all answered RFIs
    6. Maintain up to date notebook of all RFI correspondence
  • Shop Drawings and Submittals
    1. Set up and maintain submittal register in Prolog
    2. Submit the log for Architect/Owner approval
    3. Review shop drawings and product data for compliance with contract documents
    4. Submit shop drawings/product data for architect review
    5. Distribute approved shop drawings/product data to trades and Dreyfuss project team
    6. Obtain lead times for procurement fabrication and delivery of construction materials
  • Contract Documents
    1. Maintain current set of contract documents
    2. Distribute all addendums to trades and to Dreyfuss project team
    3. Cloud and identify all changes to contract documents      
    4. File all correspondences in jobsite files
  • Cost Control
    1. Identify RFIs that may have cost impacts
    2. Assist Project Manager in creating PCOs in Prolog Manager
    3. Obtain cost estimates from subcontractors
  • Weekly Owners Meetings
    1. Take Minutes, prepare and distribute weekly Meeting Minutes
    2. Prepare and distribute Change Order Requests, RFIs and Submittal Logs
    3. Prepare weekly look ahead schedule by Superintendent of Sr. Project Engineer
  • Schedule
    1. Assist Superintendent with updating the Project Schedule
    2. Assist Project Manager with documenting possible schedule delays to the Architect/Owner
    3. Assist in the review of initial and periodic schedule updates from Subcontractors
    4. Schedule and Track long lead time material list
  • Field Coordination
    1. Site Photographs – Take Monthly photos of construction activity (overall and detailed)
    2. Assist with Test and Inspection - Review for specification compliance
    3. Assist with Test and Inspection – Non-conformance, issue Subcontractor letter
  • Close-Out Procedure
    1. Close-out log
    2. Close-out letter
    3. Warranty letter
    4. Final As-Builts - Dreyfuss
    5. Final As-Builts – Subcontractor
    6. Extra Stock/Key Transfer
    7. Operation and Maintenance – Coordinate operational walk-through with the Owner

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May directly supervise clean-up laborers while on project site.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include assigning and directing work, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction or equivalent; or one to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret common technical journals, contracts, and plans and specifications.  Ability to respond clearly and communicate both orally and in writing with the project team, Dreyfuss employees and subcontractors.  Ability to write reports and business correspondence including transmittals, RFIs and Submittals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, subcontractors, inspectors, and the general public.  Ability to read, interpret, and apply applicable building codes.

MATHMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commission, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply the concepts of algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, mathematical, diagram or schedule form with several abstract and concrete variables.

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED

Ability to use a PC, with specific knowledge of the following programs preferred: MS Word, MS Project, MS Excel, MS Outlook, Photo SW, Citrix, Internet Explorer, and Prolog.  Should be able to touch type.  Ability to use a calculator, tape measure, fax machine, scanner, copier, and other common office tools and equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions.  The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, and risk of electric shock.  The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Fluent in English.  Must have driver’s license for travel purposes.
